Wave-templateAutomatic Wave assignment is one of the best SAP EWM functionality in the fulfillment process. The SAP EWM wave building process had more added features with better control for the warehouse activities. System performance is greatly improved and capable of executing  large volume of orders along with Wave release. This blog post talks about the concepts and steps to enable the automatic wave assignment functionality.

Any Warehouse distribution center requires better Supply chain execution tools to plan and control their huge volume of fulfillment orders to process.  The SAP EWM Wave building process is perfect tool for Warehouse managers to process large volume of orders with a planned and controlled way.

Every SAP functional consultant knows that, wave is a grouping of warehouse requests/orders to control warehouse activities.

SAP’s Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) can combine delivery items  and split items into waves on the basis of criteria such as activity area, route, product, Warehouse process type, Delivery type, Carrier, Ship-to and etc..

Waves can be created automatically or manually with the use of existing wave templates.

We have very good help material available in help.sap.com and I will provide the links as below but first, I would like to review the basic configurations and master data requirements for automatic wave assignment.

SAP EWM Wave Configurations and Easy access steps-

A-Configurations:

SPRO/EWM/Goods Issue Process/Wave Management/

1-General settings,
Maintain wave type & wave categories and then important based on your capacity of orders you need to configure “maintain Wave capacity profile and parallel processing of waves. Activate the Warehouse process types that you want to use for your auto templates.

2- Wave Template Determination:
Define condition tables (choose the right fields like carrier, ship-to, del type or whse process type)
Define Access sequence : Create your new access sequence under application “WME”and matain the sequence of your condition tables one by one
Define the condition Type and assign the access sequence
Define the determination procedure
Assign the procedure to document type
Define condition maintenance group “WME” and arrange all your condition tables under details of condition maintenance group.

Once you complete the SPRO configurations then your condition types are available to maintain in Easy access.

B-Easy Access steps for wave templates to create and assign condition types.

First you have to create wave template( /N/SCWM/WAVETMP/) and fill time attributes and then maintain conditions for wave template in transaction /N/SCWM/WDGCM/.  Select the condition type and maintain the appropriate values for each condition fields.

Once you set up all the templates with condition types then you can process the automation through PPF action SPPFP transaction with action definition as “/SCWM/PRD_OUT_WAVE_NEW” and if required application key as a delivery number.
